Your 45 tires have a mean that is .200 wider than the 50'sor 55's. While there is overlap, there is definately a tendancy for the lower aspect tires to be wider. And these are based only on the tires you measured, so the sample is weak. I'm sure that with your knowledge of statistics, you know this. Dunlop's website says that: in general, higher aspect tires will have a longer, narrower patch, and lower aspect tires will have a wider, shorter patch. I looked at a few more tires, and there is definately some difference among manufacturers. Due to many exceptions, and your admirable work, I will admit that my thoughts that it was always true are wrong, but still it is the norm. I will qualify my statement to read "In general, lower aspect ratio will give a wider tread, but measure the tires yourself." .... Thanks for all your work on this.
